This is quite possibly the only place in Singapore where littering is encouraged. The Singapore Sling, widely regarded as the national drink, was first created in by Raffles bartender Ngiam Tong Boon.
Giving it the pretty pink hue are grenadine and cherry liqueur. Bartender Ngiam deliberately chose to give the cocktail this rosy colour. Following the turn of the century in colonial Singapore, Raffles was the gathering place for the community — and Long Bar was the watering hole.

All this only goes to show that spending too much time with the history of cocktails can give you as big a headache as spending too much time with the drinks themselves. With a final day and a night in Singapore, what else could we do but head to the Long Bar at the historic Raffles Hotel to enjoy a Singapore Sling cocktail in the place where it was invented. A Singapore Sling is a gin cocktail but the original recipe was a secret.
Pour all ingredients into cocktail shaker filled with ice cubes. Shake well.
